The epic 2018 SORC Round the Rock Race has been completed with all boats safely arriving home. Only 2 out of the 28 starters retired. One due to a collision with a lobster pot and the other who was hit by a cruising yacht on port tack!

AZAB 2019 accept SORC Round the Rock Race as a qualifier

Many SORC'ers have competed in the AZAB race (Azores and Back) over the years. One of the Ocean Classics, the AZAB offers everything - competitive racing, great destination, fantastic socials. We are pleased to have recieved confirmation from the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club that the SORC Round the Rock Race has been accepted as a solo qualifier for the AZAB 2019 race.

Punishing weather on one of the world’s most challenging race courses made the first Round the Rock race, sponsored by Virgin Media Business one that will go down in history. It proved a mammoth test of skippers’ mental strength, emotional reserves, technical sailing ability and seamanship skills. It also tested their boats and equipment to the extreme.

Day 5 - Tight battles at the finish

There was no respite at the end of this tough race as the leaders approached the finish line off Plymouth just after dawn this morning. With the fleet tightly packed together in a light following wind, almost every boat had to repeatedly gybe spinnakers on the final approach.

Day 4 – leaders homeward bound

After more than four days alone at sea the leading boats passed the Scilly Islands early this afternoon, with Rob Craigie (Sunfast 3600, Bellino) holding a 4.5 mile lead on Conor Fogarty (SF 3600, Bam), with Ian Hoddle (GameOn) third on the water.

Day 3 - An intense mental and physical battle

The first seven solo skippers rounded the Fastnet Rock at lunchtime today, led by three Sunfast 3600s, Conor Fogarty’s Bam, Rob Craigie’s Bellino and Ian Hoddle’s GameOn. The front of the fleet is still tightly packed, with many boats rounding within sight of another. They reached the iconic turning mark after another 24-hour period with both gales and calms.
